An Introduction to Amazonite

Amazonite, named for the Amazon River in Brazil, is a variety of microcline, usually known for its green and blue green hues, but also including warmer tones and deeper grey blues.

Amazonite is member of the Feldspar group of minerals, which are identifiable by their aluminum, oxygen and silicon atoms paired with other additives. The addition of Potassium (KAlSi3O8) makes Amazonite most closely related to other Orthoclase varieties of Feldspar, such as Moonstone. More distant Feldspar relatives include Labradorite and Sunstone.

Amazonite is associated with the Amazon women, who exemplified strength and courage with a balance of feminine and masculine powers. It is known as the Stone of Truth and Courage, and is said give the wearer personal insight and integrity.
