An Introduction to Amethyst
Amethyst is widely considered the most popular Quartz gemstone. As it shares the same structure as clear quartz, it is also a great healer. Amethyst’s hues, ranging from the faintest lavender to dark purple, are derived from inclusions of iron and occasionally other metals such as aluminum. The color can be enhanced by dyeing, as well as applied irradiation, but naturally occurring Amethyst is relatively easy to procure, in tumbled stones, points, clusters, and even massive geodes.
Amethyst’s name is derived from a Greek myth involving Bacchus, the god of wine. This same tale also explains the use of Amethyst for preventing drunkenness, unbalanced emotions, or overly-impassioned decisions.
