An Introduction to Chrysoprase
Chrysoprase is a vibrant green member of the Chalcedony family. This, in turn, makes it a member of the larger Quartz family.
Many green hued crystals get their color from iron, copper or chromium, but Chrysoprase includes nickel impurities. Chrysoprase is considered to be one of the rarest and most valuable varieties of chalcedony, lagging slightly behind the special version of chrysocolla within quartz, known as gem silica.
Small deposits of Chrysoprase have been found in many countries, with Poland and Australia currently having the largest known sources. It often forms alongside other minerals, such as serpentine. You can tell these gems apart fairly easily, since Serpentine has a more yellow hue.
Like other brightly colored green gemstones, Chrysoprase is associated with the heart chakra, increasing abundance, and promoting joy.
