Jasper is a member of the Chalcedony family. This means it is a form of Microcrystalline Quartz, also related to Agate, Carnelian, and Onyx, among others. Unlike its Chalcedony-cousin Agate, Jasper is opaque, due to a larger percentage of impurities within the silicon base. These impurities create the vast array of colors and patterns that can be found within the Jasper family of stones.

In general Jaspers are considered to be a very nurturing stone, helping to connect us to nature, balance energies, and provide confidence.
