Intention means "a thing intended, an aim or plan."
Intuition means "the ability to understand something instinctively without the need for conscious reasoning or something that you plan to do or achieve, a thing that one knows."
These are so powerful when used in reiki at one time or together. Intention is the simple fact of giving Reiki. Reiki begins with the intention to heal.
For example, “I have a dream”, this is your intention. Your intention could be to manifest that dream and you can expand your intention too. It is a desire which then becomes a thought which in turn can become reality through your actions, and believing that we can heal or manifest something we want in life.
Consciously setting an intention sets off an energetic vibration that allows you to shift into that intention fully. Setting an intention yourself ensures that you take responsibility for your own actions.
So in reiki we set an intention for healing at the beginning of a session. This can be for self-healing or another intention. The intention is to send reiki for their highest good, that they are protected and that both client and healer are open in heart and mind for the healing to be truly effective. Basically the healer creates a loving and energetic space for the healing to take place and the intention is held for that person until the end of the healing.
Intuition is your inner knowing, your inner sense and even though we are taught not to diagnose in reiki, our intuition is still imperative in sensing what is going on in your clients energy field. It is not a difficult skill to learn but it requires practice, and once you have, it just becomes second nature. I work significantly with intuition, and my hands are guided to where they are needed to go.. rather than where they “should” go. We are taught to, at first, hold a position and channel reiki for 5 minutes, but this defeats the purpose because you would have sensed areas of need whilst scanning the body. It's in these areas where blockages occur and need more channelled energy.
In Reiki Two I talk about Byosen Scanning and Hibiki. Byosen is a technique which refers to scanning someone else's energy field to perceive areas of disharmony or disease. Whenever there is a disease in a person there will always be sensations in their energy field referred to in Japanese as hibiki, meaning resonance. In simple terms, Hibiki is the feeling or sensations you get in your hands by scanning the energetic field. I go into more detail about sensations in Reiki First degree, but examples are warmth, tingling, hot, cold or a magnetic feeling etc.
Ways you can practice healing with Reiki:
Practice on family and friends
Attend a Reiki Share
Start a Reiki Healing Practice
All these mentioned above give you the opportunity to experience and work with different energy fields. You will find you get different sensations for each individual person and the more Reiki you give, the more you open and connect fully to a session and your client or the person you are healing. Reiki shares also enable you to connect with other healers and what better way to learn, but from each other.
So, as I conclude this blog post, we see that Intention and Intuition are such an integral part of a Reiki healing treatment and how both will eventually become a natural component of your healing sessions.
